The PlayCompete app

Add PlayCompete to your phone's home screen.

Is there an app?

Yes, and there is nothing to download from an app store. Open sports.playcompete.net/app on your phone and add it to your home screen — it gets its own icon, opens full screen with no browser bar, and updates itself. It is the same account and the same data as the website.

How do I install it?

On Android, open /app in Chrome and tap Install when it offers. On iPhone you have to use Safari: tap the Share button, scroll down, tap Add to Home Screen, then Add. Chrome on iPhone cannot install apps — that is an Apple restriction, not ours.

Where did the icon go?

On a phone it is on your home screen. On a Mac, Chrome puts it in your Applications folder and Launchpad, not on the desktop. On Windows it is in the Start menu. You can also see everything installed at chrome://apps.

What is on it?

Whatever you are. A player sees their teams, schedule, and the In/Maybe/Out buttons for each game, plus their registrations and payments. Someone running a league or tournament sees quick scores, the field board, the player directory and officiants for what they run. If you are both, you see both.

Does it work without a signal?

Race day does — check-in, volunteer check-in and timing all keep working with no bars, and sync when you get signal back. League and tournament pages need a connection.

Do I have to install it?

No. Everything works in a normal browser exactly as before. Installing just makes it faster to get to and keeps it out of your tabs.

How to
Install it on a phone

Open sports.playcompete.net/app → Android: tap Install. iPhone: Share → Add to Home Screen.

Check what is stopping an install

Open sports.playcompete.net/pwa-check.html — it lists every condition and which one is failing.

Pricing & fees

What does PlayCompete cost?

Races use a small per-registration fee. A tournament costs $4 for each team of capacity you buy, with no base fee — so 5 teams is $20 and 20 teams is $80. A league season uses a one-time plan by size. There are no monthly charges. See the Pricing pages for details.

Tournaments used to have a $100 base fee.

That is gone. Tournaments are now priced per team only, which is a large saving for a small tournament — five teams used to cost $100 and now costs $20. Tournaments already activated under the old base fee keep the capacity they paid for.

What are the payment processing fees?

For league dues and tournament entry payments, the processing fee is 3.9% + $1.00 per transaction. You choose whether to absorb it or pass it to participants. Free ($0) registrations never incur a fee.

Getting paid & refunds

How do I get paid?

You get paid via your Stripe Connect account, which you set up when you turn on payments.

How often do I get paid?

Transactions are posted as you receive them, so there's no need to wait weeks for payment.

Can I issue refunds?

Yes, that is entirely up to you, and you can pre-set the amounts based on your race policies.

Your account

Can I run races, leagues, and tournaments from one account?
